Paithal Mala

Paithalmala is a popular trekking destination. There are two trekking seasons at Paithalmala: monsoon and summer. Trekking in Paithalmala can be challenging due to frequent rain, leeches, and occasional elephant visits. Monsoon is followed by a cool climate in Paithalmala and the grass surrounding the hills grow to their fullest size, making it difficult to walk through. As they grow above seven feet, finding the regular way becomes a difficult task. By December, the forest caretakers set fire to the grass, taking care of the rest of the forest, to ease out the trekking experience. Soon after this, the hill becomes unsuitable to trek because of the black sooth formed but clears away after a couple of weeks. Most people generally trek between January and March.

Famous as Kerala’s only drive-in beach, the Muzhappilangad offers some of the most stunning views of the yellow and orange sun setting along the golden sandy beaches of Malabar coast. The 4 km stretch of land running along the ocean is perfect for taking a romantic, leisurely stroll with your partner or just drive on the beach.

Palakkayam

This region, which includes the Western Ghats, is also an ecologically vulnerable region. There are rare species of herbs, birds and animals in this area. It is said that the Palakkai wood thatch later became the Palakkayam Thatch. From the town you can reach Palakkayamthat via Mandalam Junction. This biodiversity hotspot is now threatened by the influx of tourists.
